Climate Change, Health, and Resilience
This is a lecture presentation on climate change, health, and resilience I delivered virtually over Zoom today (18th February). In the lecture, I focused on the power of AI and modern data science in addressing the issues around climate emergency we are facing. It might as well be a double edged sword as AI applications are power hungry and the generated power can have adverse consequences. But overall, if the source of power is renewable, and footprint small, artificial intelligence applications such as digital twin technology and data science are game changers.
Following the presentation, there were audience questions and reflections. One person noted the need for understanding climate refugees (he was speaking on the context of Papua New Guinea). Another participant wanted to know about disease forecasting and modelling in the context of Tonga and their risks of Dengue fever, and another person was interested in the role of AI in disease modelling. There is definitely growing interest in the field.
